    Home Remedies for Oily Skin

    1. Drink Lots of Water

    Water dilutes toxins that aggravate your skin. Simply increasing the amount of water in your diet can help to restore the oil glands in your skin to proper function. Drink an amount in ounces of water equal to half of your weight in pounds daily.

    2. Healthy Diet

    Eat well to remove toxins and control excess oil in your skin. Eat a wide array of fresh fruits and vegetables. Be sure to include several servings of raw produce daily as raw fruits and vegetables contain enzymes and nutrients which benefit your skin’s ability to detoxify itself.

    Obtain protein from plant sources, such as dried beans and whole grains; or consume lean meat and fish in small amounts. Limit oils to cold-pressed organic oils in small amounts. Avoid processed foods as much as possible. Additives often worsen the condition of oily skin.

    You may have heard that nuts are not good for you if you have oily skin. Nuts are healthy foods in small amounts. They are great sources of zinc, which is needed to maintain the health of the glands in your skin which produce oil.

    3. Almonds and Honey

    Almonds are packed full of healthy fats, as is honey. Using these on your oily skin can help balance the levels of oil in your skin, which prevents your skin from making more oil than it needs.

    1. Grind 1/2 cup of almonds in a food processor or blender until they are reduced to powder. Pour the almond powder into a small bowl.
    2. Add 2 tablespoons of honey and stir. Continue adding honey, 1 teaspoon at a time, until the mixture creates a chalky paste.
    3. Rub the paste all over your face, scrubbing lightly with your fingers. Let the mixture dry and harden on your face.
    4. Use a washcloth soaked in warm water to gently wipe the almond mask off of your face.
    5. Repeat once per week to keep your skin from getting too oily.

    4. Oatmeal and Aloe Vera

    Oatmeal and aloe vera can easily be made into a facial mask. This is one of the most relaxing home remedies for oily skin because it sucks excess oil out of the skin and leaves your skin refreshed.

    1. Combine 1/2 cup of rolled oats and 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel in a bowl. Stir until the mixture creates a gritty mask. You may need to add more aloe vera gel.
    2. Gently rub the mixture onto your skin.
    3. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes. Rinse the mask off with warm water.

    5. Apple Cider Vinegar

    Due to its high acidity, apple cider vinegar is one of our favorite home remedies for oily skin. It works as an exfoliator, pulling oil and bacteria out of the skin.

    1. Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar. Rub the apple cider vinegar all over your face, leaving a thin coat on your face.
    2. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how sensitive your skin is.
    3. Rinse with warm water.

    6. Baking Soda

    When combined with liquid soap, baking soda is one of the fastest working home remedies for oily skin. It exfoliates your skin while cleaning it.

    1. Pour your typical amount of face soap into one hand.
    2. Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.
    3. Wash your face as normal.

    7. Aloe Vera

    Aloe vera gel, known for soothing skin issues, can also soak up excess oil and make your skin look smoother and less greasy. If you do not have an aloe vera plant, you can buy aloe vera gel anywhere.

    Instructions to create aloe vera gel from the plant.

    1. Cut 1 or 2 leaves of aloe vera off the plant. Cut a small slit into the leaves. Squeeze the aloe vera gel out of the leaves and into a small bowl.
    2. Put the gel in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. Rub the cool gel onto your face.
    3. Allow the gel to air dry and do not wipe it off.

    8. Witch Hazel

    A natural astringent, witch hazel is a facial cleanser made from the herb witch hazel. It is one of the most effective home remedies for oily skin because it tightens pores and dries up the oil.

    1. Soak a cotton ball in witch hazel. Dab the cotton ball all over your face.
    2. Do not wash the witch hazel off of your face. Let it air dry.

    Only use this remedy 1 time per day to avoid unnecessarily drying your skin out.

    9. Herbs Relieve Oily Skin

    The best herbs to get rid of oily skin include burdock, dandelion root, yellow dock root, and sage. Sage helps prevent oil formation. The other herbs work by enhancing your body’s ability to detoxify itself, resulting in clearer, less oily skin. The herbal treatments are very effective. However, they must be used consistently for a couple of months before improvement is seen.

    You may prefer to take the herbs in tincture or capsule form. If drinking tea, consume four cups daily. Check label instructions if you are using other products.

    10. Topical Care of Oily Skin

    Keep oily skin clean. Use cleansers in the forms of soap, gels, or foams. Do not use cream-based cleansers, moisturizers, or sunblocks. Water-based lotions are better for you. Scrubs and masks should be used twice weekly.

    11. A cleanser for Oily Skin

    Combine the following ingredients:

    1. 2 cups mild liquid castile soap
    2. 5 drops essential oil of lavender
    3. 5 drops oil of lemongrass
    4. Take 5 drops essential oil of geranium

    How To use: Wash your face with a little bit of the soap and water at least twice each day. Rinse off completely. Follow with a toner for oily skin.

    12. Toners for Oily Skin

    Witch hazel is a terrific toner for oily skin. Purchase or make toners that contain lemongrass, clary sage, ylang-ylang, lavender, geranium, rosewood, or lemon thyme essential oils. If you have a favorite skincare product that does not include these oils, simply add a few drops of any of these oils to the bottle of product and shake well.

    Toner Recipe for Oily Skin
    Combine the following:

    • 1/2 cup witch hazel extract
    • 1/4 cup lavender flower water
    • 5 drops essential oil of lavender
    • 1/8 cup aloe vera juice
    • 5 drops essential oil of clary sage
    • 2 drops essential oil of lemon thyme

    How To Use: Apply to freshly washed face at least twice each day with a cotton ball. You may use it as a spritzer as often as desired.
