1.Keep Your Nasal Passages Clear

When dealing with a sore throat, doctors say it is best to keep your nasal passages clear. This means keeping your mouth closed when sleeping, if possible. 

When sleeping with your mouth open it can cause a dry mouth and lead to a sore throat. Try using decongestants, saline nasal sprays, and a humidifier to prevent and heal a sore throat.

 2.Rest

Rest is the best medicine when dealing with any kind of ailment. Get plenty of rest when you are dealing with a sore throat and cold. Resting leaves more energy to fight the infection. 

Also when you are sick, you don’t feel like doing much anyway so lay in bed and take a day off. When you are feeling better in the next day or two you will be happy that you did.

 3.Raspberry Tea Gargle

To use raspberry tea as a home remedy, pour one cup of boiling water over two teaspoons of dried raspberry leaves and steep for ten minutes. 

Then strain, allow to cool and gargle. Raspberry tea is also good for reducing fevers. Do not drink any kind of gargle.

4.Gargling with Sage

Sage is a great curative herb to treat a sore throat. To use sage as a home remedy, mix a teaspoon of sage in a cup of boiling water. Strain and cool and add one teaspoon each of honey and apple cider vinegar. Gargle four times a day.

5. Turmeric

Turmeric is good for calming a sore throat. To use turmeric as a home remedy.

  • Mix a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of turmeric and a half teaspoon of salt. 
  • Gargle with this twice a day. 
  • If you can’t handle the taste, mix ½ a teaspoon of turmeric with a cup of hot milk and drink. 
  • Turmeric stains clothes so are careful when mixing and gargling.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

Drinking apple cider vinegar can help soothe a sore throat. But do not give it or any honey containing food or beverage to children under two. 

Because it can cause something called infant botulism which is a kind of food poisoning. Apple cider vinegar and food or drink containing honey can also cause allergic reactions in very young children.

  • To use apple cider vinegar as a home remedy mix together one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and eight ounces of warm water. 
  • Sip this mixture slowly but do not let it get cold. Use this home remedy as often as you think you need to. 
  • You can also gargle with apple cider vinegar by mixing one teaspoon of salt, ½ cup of apple cider vinegar and one cup of warm water. 
  • Dissolve the salt in the apple cider vinegar and mix it in the water. 
  • Gargle with this mixture every 15 minutes.

7.Zinc

For years zinc has been hailed as a great remedy for a sore throat. Zinc lozenges should be taken every two hours and instead of swallowing the tablet, let it dissolve in your mouth. Not only will it help ease the pain of a sore throat. It will also help with other cold symptoms.

8.Lemon with Honey

Mix the juice of one whole lemon with two teaspoons of honey and a cup of warm water. You can keep a cup made and sip on it all day long.

9. Salt Water Gargle

Saltwater is an old standby for a sore throat. You should mix one teaspoon of salt in one pint of warm water. That measurement will closely mimic the natural saline content in your body and soothe your throat.

You can use it as a gargle every hour, or until your throat feels better. If you have high blood pressure problems, you’ll want to make sure that you don’t swallow the mixture.

10.Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea is a great way to relieve the irritated membranes in your throat. Steep one teaspoon of dried chamomile in one cup of hot water and allow it to cool enough that you can use it as a gargle.

You can also make a poultice out of chamomile, apply it to a cloth, and wrap it around your throat. To make a poultice you will need to mix about one tablespoon of dried chamomile with one or two cups of boiling water.

Allow the chamomile to steep for around five minutes and then strain the liquid. Soak the cloth and wrap it around the affected area. Repeat the process when the rag becomes cold.

11.Drinking a lot of fluids

Drinking a lot of fluids will help keep the tissues in your throat hydrated and relieve that dry, scratchy feeling that makes you cough.

However, you should avoid beverages that contain caffeine. Caffeine works as a diuretic and will cause you to become dehydrated.

12.Garlic

Garlic is another great home remedy for a sore throat. Garlic contains antiseptic and antibiotic properties. These can help relieve the pain and fight the bacteria that is causing the sore throat.

Some experts recommend that you take six 15 grain garlic oil capsules daily.

13.Vitamin C

Taking around 60 milligrams of vitamin C each day will help strengthen the throat tissues. It will also help fight the bacteria that is making your throat sore in the first place.
