Ways To Protect Your Hair From The Summer Sun

How To Protect Hair In Summer?

Most of us don’t think of our hair or the possible damage we can do to it when we go swimming or even just go out for some fun in the sun, but the truth is the sun and humidity can cause damage to your hair.

Some examples of damage to your hair that can happen are the injuring of your hair’s cuticle which can result in dryness, split ends, the frizzes, and just brittle hair in general.

Here are some tips for protecting your hair during the Summer months.

1. Don’t Wash Your Hair More

Consider not washing your hair as often to give your hair a chance to absorb more moisture. The truth is you don’t need to wash your hair every single day. This has become a habit in modern society but in truth, it does damage to your hair.

2. Avoid Heat

Avoid blow drying and curling your hair with hot rollers or curling irons during the Summer months. Because they add further damage to your hair.

If you want your hair to be wavy, braid it when wet and then take the braids out. You will have beautiful wavy hair without the use of heat.

3. Shampoo After Swimming

If you go swimming in a public pool. You should rinse your hair as soon as.

You are finished to get rid of all the chemicals from the water before they have a chance to damage your hair.

4. Use Sun Protection

Many people don’t realize it but just like your skin, your hair can get sunburned. So, if you know you are going to the beach or going to be outside in the sunlight for any length of time.

Put sunscreen on your hair and scalp to minimize the damage. Even if you are just going to be going from shop to shop this is still a good idea.

5. Use Conditioner

If you have had professional highlights put into your hair. You don’t want the sun to damage them.

Apply conditioner to your hair and then put your hair up in a bun.

Try to keep the hair that is highlighted wound tightly inside the bun and away from the sun.

6. Shampoo With Care

Change your shampoo and conditioner to ones that moisturize your hair. This will help your hair to retain more moisture. Also, keep you from getting as many split ends and frizzies which are par for the course during Summer months.

7. Go For Deep Conditioning Treatments

Over the weekend or a few nights during the week coat the trouble spots in your hair with a deep conditioner. Then pin it up or wrap it in plastic.

This will help your hair to keep its moisture. It will keep heavy conditioners from weighing your hair down. Since you are only putting deep conditioner on spots that have split ends or the frizzies.

8. Trim Your Hair

Trim your hair every 6 to 8 weeks during the Summer months. This will help to contain the damage.

9. Avoid straightening

Avoid straightening, perming, or curling your hair during Summer. All of these treatments add damage to your hair. With the heat and humidity already being a factor during Summer months when it comes to hair care.

If you are not doing these treatments will help you to minimize possible damage to your hair.

10. Night Treatment

If you weren’t able to avoid your scalp getting sunburned, and now you have a sunburned scalp, apply aloe vera gel to the burned spots at night. This will help your scalp to heal and will also help with any discomfort.

11. Wear a hat

Wearing a hat or keeping your hair in a bun or braids will help to protect your hair. When you are planning to be out in the sun and don’t want to apply sunscreen to your scalp and hair.

It’s very important to be especially careful of your hair during the Summer months. Most people associate the Summer months with taking care of the skin by keeping sunscreen on and wearing a hat.

Most don’t realize that the hair and scalp are just as prone to sunburn as the rest of the body. Keeping these tips in mind will save you having to do damage control during the Fall and Winter months to try and repair damaged hair.
