    Natural Remedies for Dehydration

You may be surprised to learn that there are effective home remedies for dehydration. When caught early enough, it is possible to reverse dehydration without the necessity of a trip to the doctor. But how do these home remedies for dehydration work?

    1.Bananas

Bananas are frequently recommended as a remedy for dehydration. These delicious fruits have a high water content so they help replenish lost fluid.

Being a potassium-rich food, they also help replace lost potassium. For children that do not like bananas, raisins are another option. While they don’t have the high water content found in bananas. They are an excellent source of potassium.

    2.Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea is an old favorite. Decaffeinated teas are an excellent choice when it comes to fluid replacement. Chamomile has the added advantage of being a natural pain reliever. It also helps relieve the stomach cramps that often accompany dehydration.

You may be considering buying one of the oral rehydration solution made commercially, but you can easily make one yourself at home. Mix 8 teaspoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt in one liter of water.

A half-cup of orange juice can be added for flavor. This home remedy for dehydration works by replacing lost electrolytes and fluid. The sugar in the solution aids in electrolyte absorption.

In children who are resistant to drinking, popsicles are a popular home remedy for dehydration. You can purchase special popsicles such as Pedialyte’s freezer pops. You can make your own cheaper version at home by mixing an oral rehydration solution and using popsicle molds.

    3.Epsom bath

An Epsom bath might be another home treatment for dehydration you’ve heard about. This serves a triple purpose. Dehydration is often accompanied by sore muscles. Studies have shown that one component of Epsom salts, magnesium, can reduce pain and inflammation.

Magnesium is also an electrolyte. While it can be absorbed through the digestive tract, there are a lot of things that can interfere with it. When it’s absorbed through the skin, it works much better. The sulfates in Epsom salts also improve the absorption of nutrients, which will help your body return to the proper nutrient balance faster.

    4.Salt

Salt can serve several purposes as a home remedy for dehydration. It provides sodium, one of the electrolytes that are needed to treat dehydration. Salt can also be used to treat the effects of dehydration.

A salt rub after bathing can help rid you of the dry, flaky skin that comes with reduced fluid. Just rub a handful of salt over your skin as soon as you step out of the shower or bath. If your skin is itchy due to being so dry, pour one cup of salt into your bath, and soak in the solution.

As with any home remedy, if things do not improve or they seem to be worsening, you should call your family doctor for further treatment. In some cases, it’s necessary to receive fluids through an IV to reverse dehydration.
