Baking soda can provide immediate relief from the itching caused by chigger bites. This can keep you from scratching and spreading the chigger bites all over your body. In addition to the method listed below, you can sit in a cool bath with a sprinkling of baking soda.
- Put 4 tablespoons of baking soda in a cup.
- Add small amounts of water until the mixture forms a thick paste.
- After washing the affected skin, apply the paste to each chigger bite.
- Let the mixture dry on your skin and repeat as necessary.
One theory claims that chigger bites itch because of an enzyme left behind in the wake of a chigger attack. Hydrogen peroxide is strong enough to destroy these enzymes and put an immediate stop to your itching.
- Wash your skin thoroughly.
- Apply hydrogen peroxide to each chigger bite.
- Let the hydrogen peroxide dry on your skin.
- Repeat as needed until there are no more chigger bites.
Comfrey leaves are easy to find if you have a vibrant garden. This perennial grows to be about three feet tall, and it is easily identified by its white and purple bell-shaped flowers.
- Pick leaves off of a comfrey plant. Dehydrate the leaves in a dehydrator or a low-temperature oven.
- Add 1 cup of oil to a pan and heat it slightly.
- Crush the dehydrated comfrey leaves. Add 1 cup of comfrey leaves to the oil. Let the mixture sit for 3 hours.
- Strain the mixture and save the resulting oil.
- Apply the salve to your chigger bites as needed.
Since vinegar is so astringent, it is good at relieving itching and clearing up bug bites. Apple cider vinegar is the most effective for this remedy, but you can use any vinegar that you have on hand.
- Wash the entire area affected by vinegar bites.
- Soak a cotton ball in vinegar.
- Dab the cotton ball on each chigger bite, making sure to completely cover every bite.
- Let the vinegar dry on your skin.
Epsom salt baths are known for their ability to help you detox and cleanse your body of bacteria and toxins. They can draw bacteria from chigger bites and relieve itching almost immediately.
- Run a warm bath.
- Pour 1 cup of Epsom salts into the bath.
- Agitate the water until the salt dissolves.
- Soak in the bath for 30 to 45 minutes, making sure that all of your chigger bites are submerged in the water.
Turmeric is known for its ability to kill bacteria, which makes it one of the go-to natural cures for chigger bites.
- After cleansing the site of your chigger bites, rub a small amount of olive oil on them.
- Sprinkle turmeric over your chigger bites.
- Let the turmeric sink in for at least 10 minutes.
- Wipe the olive oil and turmeric off. Your skin may have an orange tinge from the turmeric.
While rubbing alcohol may be irritating to the skin at times, it is one of the most foolproof ways to get rid of chiggers.
- Clean the skin, leaving it slightly damp.
- Dab a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol.
- Rub all over the site of your chigger bites.
