You are more likely to have many more in the future. After suffering from a gout attack. There are several natural remedies to help prevent another gout attack.

1. Eating Cherries

To prevent and remove gout, try eating cherries. The substance in cherries works very well to lower uric acid levels in the body. Eat anywhere from a ½ cup to a pound of cherries every day.

If you don’t want to eat all those cherries. Try putting them in a blender and making a juice. Don’t buy store brought cherry juice drink the natural juice made with real cherries. Wild or black cherries are the best type of cherries to help prevent and remove gout.

Another way to prevent and remove gout is to avoid eating foods rich in purine like

  • liver,
  • kidneys,
  • sardines,
  • mackerel,
  • anchovies,
  • asparagus,
  • and mushrooms.

Not eating these foods will help to prevent frequent and severe gout attacks from occurring.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Unfortunately, alcohol can cause your body to produce more uric acid so you know what that means for those who drink. You can also take a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar every morning and evening to help prevent and remove frequent and painful gout attacks.

Also, taking vitamin B6 helps water to flow easier throughout the body. It can help uric acid from forming into crystals. Magnesium helps the body absorb vitamin B6. Take 50 mg of B6 every day and 400 mg of magnesium to help prevent and remove gout.

3. Stay Hydrated

The best natural treatment is water. Water can help prevent many conditions if people learn to drink enough of it. Water helps flush out uric acid. If you have had one gout attack.

You know you have high levels of uric acid and to flush it out, drink plenty of water daily. You should drink plenty of water. Somewhere in the range of 128 ounces a day, which is double the recommended amount of 64 ounces a day.

Drinking this much water will help to flush out acid build up in your system. Continue to drink this much water for a year, once your gout subsides you can cut back to 64 ounces a day.

The best type of water to drink is distilled or filtered water, which is pure. Avoid spring water, which can harden the arteries.

  1. Mix the mustard powder with a whole wheat powder. 
  2. Add a little bit of water into the powder mixture until it forms a paste. 
  3. Apply the paste to the areas that are sore and inflamed.
  4. Leave it on overnight.

6. Apple 

Eating an apple after every meal is said to be one of the good home remedies for gout. Because apples neutralize the uric acid in your system and provide pain relief for people with gout.

An apple a day is supposed to keep the doctor away. So eating one after every meal should work three times better to keep the doctor away then.

7.Ginger

If gout affects the joints in your toes. One of the home remedies for gout that will work effectively is to soak your feet in a mixture of water and ground ginger.

  • Water

How to Use It?

  1. You should only need to use about one-third of a cup of the ground ginger for it to be effective. 
  2. Soak your feet for about 30 minutes. Your feet will begin to sweat which will help to remove the uric acid from your joints. 
  3. When you are finished soaking your feet.
  4.  You should immediately take a bath to wash away the ginger because if it dries on your skin it may cause irritation.

8.Consume vitamin C

Eating foods that contain a high volume of vitamin C such as

  • tomatoes,
  • citrus fruits,
  • green peppers,
  • celery, and lettuce 

Vitamin C helps to reduce the inflammation associated with gout.

9.Bananas

Bananas are one of the most recommended home remedies for gout. They contain a lot of phosphorus which will react with the uric acid in your system and remove it from your body. 

You should eat 3 or 4 bananas every day for this remedy to be effective.

10.Exercise

Exercising and being active can help relieve stiffness and provide some relief to painful joints. You should do exercises that concentrate on the affected joints at least twice a day such as range of motion exercises. 

If you have to stand or sit for long periods for work. You should periodically move around and stretch to avoid becoming stiff and sore.

11. Take Rest

When you’re having a gout attack, any movement will make the pain worse. So, stay off your feet. Call in sick, and let someone else do your chores and run your errands.

12. Take ibuprofen.

An over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine, like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), will help joint pain and inflammation.

Taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) won’t do much good. Gout pain is mostly caused by the swelling of the joints, and acetaminophen doesn’t fight inflammation.

Don’t take aspirin. It can make gout worse.

What to Avoid With Gout?

There are many different foods and drinks that you should be sure to avoid consuming if you suffer from gout.

A lot of them are probably foods and drinks that you should avoid even if you don’t have gout. They just aren’t good for your body.

Although, for those of you who do have gout, avoiding these foods and drinks will ensure that you can keep your gout flare-ups to a minimum.

1. High Amounts of Purine

You should avoid consuming foods that contain high amounts of purine. Alcoholic beverages, organ meat such as liver and hearts, sardines, yeast, various types of fish such as trout and salmon, and a variety of other foods all contain high amounts of purine which can exacerbate your gout symptoms.

2. High Fat Foods 

You should also avoid eating fried food and other high-fat foods such as cream sauces, as well as trans-fat foods such as foods that contain vegetable oil.

 While you should avoid these foods if you have gout. These are also foods that everyone should be cutting out of their diets because they just aren’t healthy to eat.

3. Red Meats and High Protein Foods

Avoid eating red meats and other high-protein foods very often. High amounts of protein can cause your uric acid levels to increase which will result in severe attacks of gout.

4. Acidic Foods or Drinks 

Any type of foods or drinks that are acid-forming should also be avoided. Some of these types include 

  • carbonated beverages, 
  • white and wheat flour, 
  • coffee, 
  • chocolate, 
  • artificial sweeteners, 
  • pasta, 
  • salt, 
  • vinegar
  •  variety of other foods and drinks. 

While it may not be possible to avoid these types of foods and drink all the time, you should at least avoid eating them regularly.

When should you see a doctor?

Often, you can deal with the pain of a gout attack yourself. Even if you do nothing at all, the pain will go away on its own, leaving you to feel perfectly fine.

But, if you suffer from frequent, recurring bouts of gout, or your gout attacks last for more than a few days, you should see a doctor, and the earlier the better.

There are prescription medications that can shorten the duration and severity of gout attacks. Some medications can help prevent you from having gout attacks in the first place.
