Protein is used in building muscles, blood, and other tissues. It is also used in repairing and maintaining muscle, blood, and other tissues.

Protein isn’t just found in meat. It can be found in many other protein-rich sources such as eggs, milk, legumes, grains, beans, and some vegetables. 

What foods contain protein?

Here are some great choices of protein that most people may not immediately think of:

1. Soybeans

Soybeans are a great source of protein. It can found in many different foods such as peanut butter, margarine, Worcestershire sauce, and even ice cream.

Soy milk is another great soybean product that is rich in protein. In just one cup of soybeans is 29 grams of protein.


Lentils are another great source of protein and lentils are probably most known for being used in soups but they can be used in a variety of dishes. 

Lentils are not only rich in protein but they are also packed with minerals. There are 18 grams of protein in just 1 cup of lentils.

3. Red Kidney Beans

Red Kidney Beans are one of everyone favorites. It can easily found in a popular dish for most Americans. Everyone loves eating red kidney beans. It is a great source of protein.

There are 15 grams of protein in one cup of red kidney beans. There can easily one cup of kidney beans found in each serving of chili. In the summer months, I use red kidney beans in my “3 Bean Salad.”

4. Ricotta Cheese

Ricotta Cheese is also a great source of protein-rich foods. It can also used in a variety of dishes. The stuffing inside cheese ravioli to one of my favorite dishes lasagna.

Ricotta cheese can also added to pancakes for some of the most scrumptious pancakes. Just add some blueberries. You have a great breakfast with plenty of protein and antioxidants. Ricotta cheese has 28 grams of protein in just 1 cup.

5. Cottage Cheese 

Low-Fat Cottage Cheese is another rich source for protein. It can also used in many different ways. Most dieters love fresh fruit with cottage cheese as a snack.

You can used it in some recipes such as spinach lasagna or fruit salad made with pineapple, lime jello, pecans, marshmallows, and cottage cheese. Just one cup of low-fat cottage cheese has 28 grams of protein.

6. Grain Rice

White Long Grain Rice is a food item that most people can easily find many uses. Long Grain White Rice has 13 grams of protein in one cup and is a great side to almost any meal.

7. Yogurt 

Plain Yogurt has just 13 grams of protein in 8 ounces. It can used in a lot of different ways. Take yogurt mix with a little vanilla and add granola. You have a great parfait for any snack or breakfast.

Plain yogurt is used in making cucumber dressing for gyros. It can also use in many other dips and salad dressings instead of mayonnaise or buttermilk.

8. Roasted Peanuts
