Bharatpur Tourism

Bharatpur is a famous tourist attraction in the state of Rajasthan. It is also known as the ‘Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan’ and is situated 50 km west of Agra. Bharatpur provides passage to tourist attractions such as Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur.

Bharatpur is named after Bharat, the brother of Lord Rama. One of the chief characters of the Hindu Epic Ramayana. It is an ancient city, built by Maharaja Suraj Mal, in the year 1733.


Keoladeo Ghana National Park also known as Bharatpur bird sanctuary is very popular among tourists and most of Bharatpur tours feature a visit to this famous national park. The Park recognized as the world heritage site of UNESCO and provides a opportunity to birds lovers to watching varied range of local and migratory birds. The best time to visit the park is the winter season and the monsoon season.

The Lohagarh Fort was built by Maharaja Suraj Mal. This fort is an enormous structure built out of iron so also known as the Iron Fort. The fort consists of three palaces, Mahal Khas, Kamra Mahal and Purana Mahal. Now Kamra Mahal functions as the State Archaeological Museum.

Deeg Palace is the another famous attraction of Bharatpur. It was built by Badan Singh as the summer resort of the rulers of Bharatpur. Now famous for its water palaces, gardens and fountains. The Bharatpur Palace, Gopal Bhavan and the Government Museum are the another major places to see in Bharatpur.

Ganga mandir is famous for its brilliant architecture. It is visited by thousands of devotees every year. The Bankebihari Temple, and the Laxman Temple are the some of the prominent religious centres in Bharatpur.

Bharatpur railway station is well connected from various cities like Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mumbai, Delhi and the other major cities of India. Tourists can take a taxi or cab from here to reach the place easily.

Bharatpur by road

Bharatpur is well connected with nearby cities with a wide network of roads. There are a number of private buses as well as state bus RSTC service available.  Mathura (40 Km), Agra (60 Km), Firozabad (95 Km) and Aligarh (105 km) are a few of the nearby places.
