1. Baking Soda

Baking soda can be used regularly to stop an athlete’s foot. It absorbs moisture, so it can wick extra moisture away from your feet and prevent the fungus from growing and spreading.

How to use?

  1. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of baking soda into each shoe in the morning.
  2. Repeat whenever you notice your feet sweating or itching during the day.

2. Garlic

With its natural antifungal properties, garlic is one of the most efficient home remedies of athlete’s foot. You can include garlic in your diet. However, you should also try the following garlic remedy.

How to use?

  1. Smash 1 clove of garlic.
  2. Add 1 or 2 drops of olive oil to form a chunky paste.
  3. Dab the garlic and olive oil mixture onto the areas of your foot that have fungus.
  4. Repeat every day for several weeks. You can continue to use this after the fungus has disappeared to prevent it from coming back.

3. Cinnamon

Spicy cinnamon is a great remedy for stopping fungus growth. Since this remedy uses cinnamon in a foot bath, this is one of the most comfortable home remedies for athlete’s foot.

How to use?

  1. Break 8 to 10 cinnamon sticks into pieces.
  2. Boil 4 cups of water.
  3. Add the cinnamon sticks to the boiling water.
  4. Turn the heat down to a simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Let the mixture sit for 45 minutes.
  6. Soak your feet for 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Thoroughly dry your feet after the footbath.
  8. Repeat nightly as desired.

4. Live Culture Yogurt

Since it has live cultures, yogurt is good food for beating fungal and bacterial infections. Make sure that you buy yogurt with live, active cultures for this remedy to work.

How to use?

  1. Eat 1 cup of yogurt in the morning and the evening.
  2. You may want to add 2 more cups of yogurt throughout the day if your athlete’s foot persists.

5. Vinegar Foot Bath

Vinegar draws extra moisture out of your feet and eases itching, which makes it one of the most useful home remedies for athlete’s foot.

How to use?

  1. Pour 2 quarts of water into a foot bath.
  2. Add 1 cup of vinegar to the water.
  3. Soak your feet for 15 to 30 minutes.

If you do not want to soak your feet, use vinegar in the following way.

  1. Mix 1 cup of water and 1 cup of vinegar.
  2. Dip a cotton ball into the vinegar mixture.
  3. Dab the vinegar mixture onto affected areas of your feet.
  4. Dry feet thoroughly after either of these remedies.

5. Tea in Foot Bath

Thanks to the tannic acid found in tea. Tea is a very soothing treatment for itching, uncomfortable feet. Even better, it kills the fungus that causes athlete’s foot.

How to use?

  1. Pour 1 quart of warm water into a foot bath.
  2. Add 6 tea bags to the footbath.
  3. Soak your feet for 30 to 45 minutes.
  4. Dry your feet thoroughly after the footbath.

6. Salt

Salt is one of the most effective home remedies for athlete’s foot because it kills infections. Do not use this remedy if you have open sores or wounds on your feet. It will do more harm than good.

How to use?

  1. Add 4-6 cups of water to a foot bath.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon for each cup of water.
  3. Soak your feet for 10 minutes.
  4. Use a towel to dry your feet completely.
  5. Pat baking soda in between your toes to prevent moisture buildup.

How to Stop Athletes Foot from Spreading?

Persons diagnosed with athlete’s foot bear the responsibility of preventing the spread of infection to others, as well as to other parts of their body. The most effective ways to stop an athlete’s foot from spreading include:

  1. Don’t scratch. Rasping your infected feet can spread to any part of your body that can provide ideal conditions for the fungi to grow such as the groin, armpits, scalp, behind the ears, etc.
  2. Keep linens such as bedsheets and towels clean and dry to prevent other people or other body parts from rubbing across infected skin, tissue, or particles that may be left behind.
  3. Use antibacterial disinfectants on shower and bathtub floors.
  4. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying medications directly to the infected areas.
